My choice for code editor is Komodo. I like Komodo and I have been using it in past. I really didn’t want to change text editor now, because I don’t want to fix something that is not broken. When I first started to write code I tried few text editors. Then I stumbled upon Komodo Edit and I am using it since than.
It is really good editor and it has a lot options. To some it may have too many options, but I like having options even if I am not using all of them. When I become more advanced user or even expert user I might find some options more tempting to use then now. So then if I have to change editor, that would be much more troubling than to choose editor with lots of options now.
I recently started to use Notepad++ on work, because I don’t want to install larger program there (at my workplace I don’t work with web and I use editor for code if I catch few minutes break). So I have been trying it out. So far I only noticed that it selects multiple states of one word upon selecting it. I haven’t noticed that in Komodo. If someone knows how to enable this option in Komodo please leave it in comment. It could be helpful.
All other options I think go to Komodo Edit. It is bigger and this time bigger means better! Good thing is that you can set your own color scheme for all languages u use and you can save your options. Among other you can select key binding you like for some actions. But one of the most important advantages is that it opens up options as you write code. So as you write attributes and/or values it will help you by opening available options!
Now some of this stuff maybe isn’t needed if you are pro, but even than I imagine it is helpful not to have to type everything on your own. Will write about it when I get to that level
Now I am going to leave you to comment, if you like, have you tried Komodo, do you like it, is Notepad++ better and
why you think so and is there any other you like much more than these two. I appreciate any comments.
Hope this article helps a bit if you don’t know which editor should you use
One note is that Komodo Edit is free software. Here is a link to their home page http://www.activestate.com/komodo-edit
I agree with you re: Komodo Edit. It’s definitely one of my favorites for coding HTML and CSS. Actually, the reason I downloaded Komodo in the first place was because was recommended to me for coding CSS. Now that I know about all of the other options, I may never using another editor again
Thanks for sharing your findings!
As you have said yourself Notepad++ is very lightweight. I think that the main strength of Notepad++ is that it’s really fast and does everything what a basic text editor should do. I always use Notepad++ for quick & dirty html fixing
